To create a simple text document file using Notepad:

Click Start.

Choose All Programs>>Accessories>>Notepad.

Notepad opens.

Type a sentence in the typing area.

On the Menu bar, Choose File>>Save (or press Ctrl + S)

The Save As dialog box appears.

Chose a location where your file will be saved, e.g. Save your file to the desktop (by clicking Desktop on the left side of the dialog box).

Type in the name you want to give the file in the file name box

In the Save as type drop down box, be sure your document is saved as a text document.

Click Save. Your file is now saved to the desktop.
